Making the move to digital

Astraline are calling on social housing and care providers with technology-enabled care services to prepare for the digital switchover.

By 2025, the old PSTN will be replaced with an all-digital network. The roll out of the new network, by BT, will take place over the next two to three years with some parts of the country switching earlier.

Managing Director of Astraline, Joe McLoughlin, commented: “The vast majority are yet to make provision for the switchover in either their budgets or plans and this is not something that can be done overnight. This process will take years so we are encouraging people to get started now. As well as offering a life-saving response, it can also be the only human contact some older people have. The implications of not delivering the switch successfully in a timely fashion is unthinkable. We are often the only support and help for some older people and even a lapse of a few days without their monitoring service could be devastating.”
